Innovation – an endless pursuit

Nu-Wood is always exploring new ways to make our products more cost effective for our customers. Many times this is a matter of designing and manufacturing our products with options that allow for faster/easier installation of our products. Two examaples are Nu-Wood’s new Nail Flange and J-Rout options.

Nail-Flange

Order your millwork with Nu-Wood’s exclusive nail flange system and say goodbye to fastener holes on the face of the product because the fasteners are used on the flange that is hidden under the siding – there is no need for fasteners on the face of the millwork that then requires to have counter sunk holes filled and painted.

  • Faster and easier to install than the traditional methods.
  • No going back later to patch fastener holes
  • Homeowner won’t have to repaint patched fastener holes in the future

J-Rout

Order your Nu-Wood Polyurethane products with J-Rout and we will route out a 1/2”x 3/4” channel on the mounting surface of your millwork parts so that when installed, the installer does not have to use J-Channel around the part. Less materials, faster install, less expense.

At Nu-Wood, we are partners with our customers in the industry – working together to come up with new and innovative concepts and products that help our customers be even more successful.

A Real World Example:

One of our customers builds a substantial number of houses every year, and they, like everyone else in this industry, are concerned with a shrinking skilled labor pool.

They were having issues with door and window header installations. So Randy Miller, Nu-Wood’s VP of Sales (and is also a general contractor…and has been swinging a hammer since he was 13), traveled to one of the active job sites to see what kind of challenges the installers were having. Based on Randy’s observations and knowledge of construction, he worked with members of our manufacturing team, and within a few weeks, Nu-Wood had designed and produced the first high-density urethane header built with J-Rout and an Integral Nail Flange. Think of the “J-Rout” as built-in j-channel, (actually a route around the mounting side of the part), a design that allows the header to be installed before the siding via the nail flange, and then the siding simply slides into the route, just like it would terminate in j-channel.

By hearing and reacting to our customer’s challenges, we are able to save them money four ways:

#1. We now ship their headers pre-painted. The installer takes the headers out of the shipping box and they are ready to install.

#2. With the integral Nail Flange, our products are easier and quicker to install (simply nail / screw to the plywood sheathing).

#3. No need to take the time to install j-channel around the millwork, so they save time in labor and money in purchasing less j-channel, but also, since they aren’t installing over the top of the siding, there is no having the paint crew come back and fill in the fastener holes, and…

#4. Less warranty call-backs because of the siding buckling.

This is just one real-world examples of Nu-Wood’s commitment to their customers by providing innovative problem solving, engineering and manufacturing.
